Through the Looking Glass

When I look at you, I see me

And at times it’s terrifying.

I close my heart and try to bury it all deep within

The parts of me I’ve never shown to anyone else

Maybe I haven’t even seen her truly for myself

Until you held the mirror up

And I saw two unrecognizable eyes staring back

A reflection I didn’t much like

These memories, will they follow me around?

Will they haunt me for life?

Until the day I take my last breath,

and then again in the afterlife?

Face them now or face them later

But they will not disappear

Sooner or later

The darkness will be brought to light.
